Reflections from the Reltio Data-Driven Conference

The Reltio Data-Driven Conference wasn’t just a gathering of data architects; it was a snapshot of a massive industry pivot. Representing Fresh Gravity, I spent the three-day long conference, engaging with global organizations that are no longer asking if they should prioritize Master Data Management (MDM), but how they can accelerate it to fuel the next generation of AI.

What we observed at the Fresh Gravity booth was a clear evolution: MDM has moved from a back-office necessity to the literal engine of the modern enterprise.

Here are the four critical shifts every data leader needs to navigate:

1. From AI Buzzwords to the “AI Blueprint”

The conversation has matured. We are moving past the hype of “AI-ready data” and into the mechanics of AI-assisted data matching, intelligent survivorship, and automated stewardship. At Fresh Gravity, we believe the next frontier isn’t just using AI to clean data; it’s deploying AI agents that can navigate complex data landscapes autonomously. If your MDM isn’t built to support these agents, your AI strategy will stall at the starting line.

2. MDM as a Product, Not a Project

One of the most encouraging shifts is the move away from the “one-and-done” implementation mindset. Organizations are now treating MDM as a living, evolving data product. This means continuous iteration, dedicated product ownership, and most importantly measurable business outcomes. When you treat data as a product, governance becomes a feature, not a hurdle.

3. The Modernization Mandate

Migration is currently a top priority, but it’s no longer just about moving from legacy systems to the cloud. It’s about migration with acceleration. Companies are looking for coexistence strategies and risk mitigation that don’t sacrifice data quality. The goal is modernization without disruption; a delicate balance that requires a deep understanding of both legacy debt and future-state architecture.

4. Business Ownership: The Only Path to 360° Success

We’ve long said that Customer, Product, and Supplier 360 initiatives are business transformations, not IT projects. The conference confirmed this: the most successful programs are those with cross-functional accountability. When the business owns the “why”, IT can perfectly execute the “how”.

The Fresh Gravity Perspective: Solving the Alignment Gap

Throughout the conference, we heard consistent pain points:

  • Underestimated governance
  • Stalled adoption
  • A lingering lack of trust in the “Golden Record”

At Fresh Gravity, our takeaway is clear: These are rarely technology failures; they are alignment gaps. Data maturity is no longer optional; it is a competitive strategy. As organizations scale their digital transformation, clean and connected master data serves as the bedrock. We left the conference energized by the depth of these conversations and ready to help our partners bridge the gap between complex data and business-aligned results.
